The State of New Hampshire now mandates that in order to receive credit for a high school course, students must be able to demonstrate “competency” on course-specific standards. This year, Sanborn Regional High School has identified competencies for each course. “Course Competencies” are the expected content, concepts, and skills to be mastered in a course.

In order to ease the Sanborn community into this new system, a set of courses are currently piloting the competencies grading system. To receive a credit for the course, the student will still have to receive a 65 or better on all of the course materials to get the standard grade at the end of the course (as has been done in the past) and receive a 65 or better on the competency assessment/area. Beginning next year, all courses will operate under this new system.

We have opened a blog where you can ask questions about this process. This blog’s purpose is to discuss the competencies grading system only. Other school topics will be considered in the future. The moderator will be checking the blog periodically to answer your questions. Please note the moderator reserves the right to delete any comments that do not pertain to the topic in question. Thank you.
